Be yourself today. Compete with not another soul. It’s hard to stay in your lane when you’re looking everywhere else but forward. -Unknown
Recently, I heard a great message from Bishop Brady of The Potters House North Dallas: “Tied to the Post.” The entire message was amazing, but one thing struck me. Bishop Brady said, “Growth, promotions, lessons, and destiny only come when you are in your rightful position.”
After hearing his message, I told myself, “Stay in your lane, Kimberly!”
Is this easy for you?
Do you struggle in this area?
I definitely see how this has become a challenge. Today, scripted reality T.V. shows, Photoshopped pictures on Instagram, altered Snapchat stories and conflicting Facebook posts make us want to live like the Jones’, undergo surgery to mirror Kim Kardashian, and thank God at the same time for the false blessings he’s provided. All to keep up with a society that is constantly changing.
Maybe you don’t struggle in this area. I have. It’s a struggle trying to stay in your lane when it seems that the others offer better outcomes. I realized that even If I were to jump in the “fast” lane, it would not be great for me. It’s only great for the person intended to be in that particular lane. I must stay in my lane and be prepared for my own opportunities.
Now, I didn’t say, “Be stagnant, comfortable, and conditioned in that lane.” I said, “Be prepared. Be READY!” While in my own lane, I want to grow, produce, gain knowledge, experience, and learn valuable lessons so I won’t have to go through the same thing twice. Thus, I can be an example for one who chose to turn their blinker on and switch lanes!
For instance, I absolutely lovvvvvvvvve music and think I can sang, but my husband says otherwise. In reality, I can’t even sing! I absolutely lovvvvvvvvve fashion and think I can style people. However, I dislike shopping. I absolutely lovvvvvvvve food and think I can be a chef. Realistically, I’m a better sous chef. Cutting vegetables and plating are my specialties.
All in all, I’m not professionally skilled at any of those things. I’ve tried them, and it never worked. Causing me to think I was a failure. Why can’t I be good at these things? What’s wrong with me? Nothing was wrong with me at all. I just wasn’t in the right position. I was always brought back to what I do best: connecting with others, being a listening ear, encouraging, pushing, motivating, and allowing people to believe the best when all they can see is the worst.
My question for you today is simple: Are you staying in your lane? Are you in position for growth, promotion, learning, and your destiny? Are you ready to receive what you’ve been praying and asking God for, or are you mindlessly wondering around like a chicken with its head cut off? Not in your rightful position.
Get in position! Stay rooted even when you are tired. Don’t lose focus when you feel things won’t work. When you see everyone around you flourishing and assume no one is worried about you, don’t touch that blinker! Stay in your rightful place. There is no better place to be.
